What factors impact my car’s value?

Learn what really drives your car’s value at auction

Overview

Dealers evaluate cars differently than private buyers. On Bidbus, your car’s value is determined by the factors that impact how quickly and profitably a dealer can resell it.

What matters most

  • Year, make, and model – Some vehicles hold value better than others.

  • Mileage – Lower mileage usually increases value.

  • Condition – Structural integrity, mechanical health, and tire condition matter far more than a quick wash.

  • Accident and service history – A clean history report adds trust and resale value.

  • Market demand – If dealers need your type of vehicle right now, they will bid more aggressively.

What doesn’t make a big difference

  • Cleaning or detailing – A polished car may look nice, but dealers value mechanical condition over appearance.

  • Extended warranties – Dealers rarely add value for this, since they have their own coverage programs.

  • Aftermarket modifications – On sedans, mods usually lower value because dealers prefer stock condition. On trucks and SUVs, certain tasteful mods (e.g., lift kits, off-road tires) can sometimes help — but not always.

In short

Your car’s value is based on objective factors dealers care about — mileage, history, demand, and condition. Things like a fresh car wash, extended warranties, or most aftermarket mods usually won’t change what dealers are willing to pay.
