Can I sell my car if I haven’t received the title yet?

Learn what to do if your car’s title hasn’t arrived yet but you want to sell on Bidbus.

Written by Bidbus Support

Overview

To ensure a smooth, secure transaction and prevent delays with our dealership network, Bidbus requires you to either have title in hand or an active loan/lease. Because many dealerships no longer accept lost titles due to processing complications and rising fraud risks, we no longer permit listings for vehicles with missing titles.

Key points

  • Car Paid in Full (Title in Hand):Yes. You are ready to list and sell immediately.

  • Active Loan or Lease:Yes. The dealer will pay off your balance and secure the title from the DMV after your title gets released from the lienholder. Important: Please be aware that if you have negative equity, you must pay the difference at the time of vehicle delivery or the dealership will not be able to purchase your vehicle.

  • Just Paid Off Your Loan (Title Not Yet Received):No. You must wait until the DMV issues and mails your new paper title before a dealer can purchase the vehicle.

  • Lost Title or Duplicate Pending:No. We no longer accept vehicles without a physical title. If you have lost your title or are currently waiting for a duplicate to arrive in the mail, you must wait until you have the physical document in hand before listing your car.

  • Active loan or lease? Dealer pays it off (please provide your lienholder info).
